Happy Thanksgiving to folks in the US, and happy thursday to the rest
of you! I've got a new release candidate at:

http://www.icculus.org/quake2/files/quake2-r0.16.tar.gz

I'm pretty sure the mouse problem is 100% fixed. Please check and
verify. Once ALSA sound is compiling again, I'll make an official
release!

Thanks

Fixed... compared to quake2forge, and its okeydokey. Wow - Quake2Max
really makes 'normal' quake2 look dull....

Doesn't for me - tried "game on", "game off", just "game" - I think
your X server doesn't like video mode switching or something, perhaps?

You are correct. Ummm. Now why it doesn't happen if I do a 'game xatrix' or
'game rogue' I don't know.

I will investigate.

Hi,
yep, GLX mouse now works.
But unfortunately SDLGL seems to be broken now..it quits with the
following message:

./sdlquake2: relocation error: ./ref_sdlgl.so: undefined symbol:
doneMouse

What does "hangs a bit" mean... Does this mean that it keeps moving
after you stop moving the mouse? Does it get stuck spinning?

hm it's a bit difficult to describe.
I keep looking around and then the mouse movement stops for a second or
two and the crosshair goes back and forth some pixels a few times.

Brendan,

The 'motion' is fixed for me but it looks 'inverted' and even [invert
mouse] in the options menu doesn't seem to fix it. I also got some
segfaults that weren't there previsouly. What cmd line do you use to
start q2 on Linux, btw (just wanting to make sure you're not doing
anything "special")? I'm on RHEL3 (XFree-4.3), btw..

Someone can help me out of this?

I just installed the Quake2 RPMS with no Mission-pack support
(http://www.chez.com/colinf/quake2/CD/quake2-r0.15-io1.i386.rpm) and the
Q2max pak file, and the game starts up with no errors and GL graphics... but
when i try to make a game (Single player, trying to play a map) the game
shuts down and the error comes up (Subject topic), there is no other errors
displayed than that...

I got Linux Mandrake 10.0 with reinstalled 1.2 SDL and NVIDIA GF2MX, the game
works, but I cant play it =) Can it be missing files? Or is it the SDL that
is wrong configured?

(sry if I had bad english, Im from Finland)

Thank You

I can confirm this. In Multiplayer the x-axis seems to be inverted. When
moving the mouse to the left, crosshair goes to the right and vice
versa.
This does not happen in single player or when hosting a listen server,
only when joining a server.

Really amazing. I got that problem in single-player (start new game,
etc..).. I really think there's a problem with those latest (past-0.15.x)
patches when the RW_ stuff moved into rw_linux instead of staying in the
renderers themselves (as it was for years).

What exactly is the error message you are receiving?

I'm not sure. We'll need more information about the error message.
You might want to try the 0.14 RPM that is posted on that same webpage.
It sounded like the 0.15 one was untested. Of course, my personal
recommendation is to always use the source...

Hmm,
that's a seg-fault...

What do the contents of your baseq2 directory look like? (do an "ls

can you try running it in GDB?

e.g. "gdb quake2"
"run +set vid_ref softx"

and when it crashes type "where" to get the line number...

Do you have compilers installed? Could you try release 0.16

HI,

Right now i've tested the rpm from your link, i have seg fault with soft
and softx, but if i lunch the game with

./quake2 +set vid_ref glx (or sdlgl) the game runs fine for me.

This is tested in a machine with mdk10 too.

Not is needed a reboot, you can restart X.

I've compiled the new 0.16 release with all features except alsa (no
compiling for me), if you want test it i can send you, are 1,9 mb.

All running perfectly.

I warn to you, is a complete built, this is, game.so for mission packs,
i've also compiled the game so for Zaero, retexture, q2max, ctf,
dedicated, redblue.......

If you want i can send you the game.so for quake2 and the compiled
binaries only.

PS. When i try to compile with alsa support fails with this error:

Hi kokox!
Post by kokox
HI,
Right now i've tested the rpm from your link, i have seg fault with soft
and softx, but if i lunch the game with
./quake2 +set vid_ref glx (or sdlgl) the game runs fine for me.
Sounds good, yeah you can send it or them if you want, or I can get it from
the net, its up to you =)

yeah i have gcc and all those things... maybe i should try the latest
version yes...

Hmm,
that's a seg-fault...
What do the contents of your baseq2 directory look like? (do an "ls
-l")
can you try running it in GDB?
e.g. "gdb quake2"
"run +set vid_ref softx"
and when it crashes type "where" to get the line number...
Do you have compilers installed? Could you try release 0.16
(http://www.icculus.org/quake2/files/quake2-r0.16.tar.gz) and see if
you have the same problem.
Thanks

Received signal 11, exiting...
Ive tried to run on root too, thought it was the 3D drivers that needed root
permission to run... =(
Post by brendanburns
Do the other renderers work? e.g.
quake2 +set vid_ref softx
or
quake2 +set vid_ref glx
--brendan

Oh im so sorry, forgot the topic heh...

I just installed the Quake2 RPMS with no Mission-pack support
(http://www.chez.com/colinf/quake2/CD/quake2-r0.15-io1.i386.rpm) and
the Q2max pak file, and the game starts up with no errors and GL
graphics... but when i try to make a game (Single player, trying
to play a map) the game shuts down and the error comes up
(Subject topic), there is no other errors
you get an error that says "Turkey Day..." ?
Post by MiDiaN
displayed than that...
instead of navigating through the menu, could you try loading up
quake2, bringing up the console (default key: tilde), and using
'map base1'. Does that crash as well?
What exactly is the error message you are receiving?
Post by MiDiaN
I got Linux Mandrake 10.0 with reinstalled 1.2 SDL and NVIDIA GF2MX,
the game works, but I cant play it =) Can it be missing files? Or is
it the SDL that is wrong configured?
I'm not sure. We'll need more information about the error message.
You might want to try the 0.14 RPM that is posted on that same webpage.
It sounded like the 0.15 one was untested. Of course, my personal
recommendation is to always use the source...

whoops, its in there now...

some day I'll learn how to use CVS, really, I promise...

(actually someday I'll really unit-test my releases on machines other than my main machine...)

I'm pretty sure the mouse problem is 100% fixed. Please check and
verify. Once ALSA sound is compiling again, I'll make an official
release!
Hi,
yep, GLX mouse now works.
But unfortunately SDLGL seems to be broken now..it quits with the
doneMouse

This file is a lot older, it looks. I'm not sure why it would change
things, but the icc-q2 build process should produce a 'gamei386.so'.
I'm not sure where you got the current gamei386.so but I'm guessing it
wasn't from the icculus quake2's source tree.
Perhaps replacing the one you have there now with the one from the
build process would fix things -- although I'm just guessing because I
imagine they should be equivalent. Perhaps differing compile options
cause the quake2 binary and that shared object not to be linkable...

In those cases where some strange bug is occuring that affects player
position/view, one could record a demo and the replay should show the same
effects, probably even when replayed on a system with no such bug. The only
exceptions are rendering bugs - which may not ever be observed by replaying a
demo on an unaffected machine. For instance, if I have a corrupted texture
or display driver - the artifacts of those would not reproduce in a recorded
demo.

But this mouse problem is a good canidate for being caught on a recorded demo
- and might make reporting bugs easier. However, there is also the
posibility that some mouse bugs people are reporting are independent of the
build - so it's good to verify that the bug follows the build. My optical
mouse, for instance, will exibit problems like described above when something
as small as a cat hair lodges in the optical area of the mouse.

I tried to record it. Unfortunately the recorded demo does not show
these mouse movement bugs. :-/

Also this is definitely a bug since it doesn't happen with version 0.15.
