Discussion:
Source code browser

Hi Guys,

Well after a few hours sussing and a few cans of beers and a lot of hair
pulling, I finally got the source code browser to work. This has to be the
most obtuse web script I ever have tried to install - virtually no
documentation.

Anyway:

http://bsod.homeunix.net/icculus/http/source/

It is bloody trick! I really like the way the links to functions/variables
pull in all cases of that function/variable - you can really quickly find
your way around.

*enjoy*

OK, I tidied this up a lot now I understand what it wants - new URL:

http://bsod.homeunix.net/icculus/quake2/source/

Nick,
Thanks for doing this! Can you send me a tarball (or post it somewhere) then I can host it off the icculus site.

--brendan

(Also if you have any scripts I could use to regenerate it as the source changes, that'd be great.)

Well, to be honest there is no way I could do a package as it's a 'living'
thing. You need to download and install the lxr scripts (plus Glimpse if you
don't have it), then work out what they what, then configure your httpd
server to deliver what they want, then generate the databases/word search
stuff...

Then drink lots of beer while you get it to work. I have done it now, so I
don't mind hosting this. Just make sure ;-) you keep me informed of any new
stable icculus quake2 code - it is a 2 minute job for me now to update it.

And what about doing it for q3 source? Oh, you are
perhaps afraid to have to drink too much... :-)

I thought about it, but seeing as quake3 is new out, I haven't got the
bandwidth here at home for all the hits it would get...

oh, okay thanks,
I thought it was static generated HTML.

Thanks for hosting, I'll put a link on the main icculus page if you
don't mind.

Thanks!

Dear all,

After a few years of this server being up (a freebsd box), I have had to
take it permanently off line, and that means the icculus quake2 source
code browser has gone with it.

I do not plan to rebuild this box (it is too old), so unfortunately it
will not return.
